Southampton SEND Reform Information Hub
Southampton Parent Carer Forum has spent a significant amount of time gathering the voices, experiences and views of families, young people and professionals throughout the Government SEND Reform consultation process.
Over recent months we have:
- Held conversations at SEND Get Togethers and coffee mornings (Focused on Goverments SEND reform white paper and also one with Southampton City Council about their plan for Southampton)
- Gathered feedback through workshops and engagement events
- Spoken with families individually
- Collected views from professionals and community partners
- Heard directly from parent carers and young people about what needs to improve within the SEND system
Using all of this feedback, Southampton Parent Carer Forum submitted a response to the Government on behalf of the forum and the families we represent.
The Local Authority has had to write a response to the Government SEND reform, thorough the Local Authorities SEND reform plan document. The DRAFT document is below. Please remember this is currently a DRAFT Local Authority plan in response to the Government’s proposed SEND reforms.
Due to national timescales, there is a short window for feedback. We kindly ask families to share views on Southamptons draft plan as soon as possible where they can.
While we recognise this is a quick turnaround for families, it is important to understand that the Local Authority is also working to national deadlines set by the Department for Education (DfE).
Your voice matters and will help shape the future of SEND services in Southampton.
We know many families will have questions, concerns and ideas and we welcome all feedback.
